How to Remove Spyware and Protect your Computer
The most common problem we fix is Windows XP computers slowed down by spyware. Just a few can cause your computer to slow down to a crawl. Here is a step by step guide to get your Windows XP system cleaned up and also protect it from future spyware problems for free!
Step 1: Cleaning Temp Files
You will have to install several free utilities. I will link to filehippo.com for all the utilities. Just click on Download Latest Version on the right hand side, download the program and run setup to install the utilties.
Note: When installing CCleaner, on the Install Options page, deselect "Add CCleaner Yahoo! Toolbar and use CCleaner from your browser" to avoid installing a browser toolbar.
CCleaner is a cleaning utility that will remove old unnecessary temporary files. This makes the spyware scans you run in the next steps faster, because it will have less files to scan. It also frees up space on your hard drive.
Open CCleaner and Press Run Cleaner. Press OK on the dialog asking if you want to proceed. The scan can take up to 20 minutes if there are alot of files to remove. Once the scan is complete you it will display how many megabytes of files were removed. You can close the program at this point. On to step 2!
